Hilton should have a good package Tie Dye. You can not dye a heart with a satisfactory or Rit Dye Tie Dye Strings. A good kit by Jacquard, Tulip, Rainbow Rock, Dylon or Dritz works very well, so that you are using multiple colors. With a dye called Procyon by cold water that is easy to use and produces long-lasting colors.

Then get some 100% cotton T-shirts to practice. Heart-shaped designs are more difficult than others, and there's always some trial and error before you get well.
